Phoenicians means sea — in ancient times, they were the most formidable merchants to sail the waters of the Mediterranean.

The sea, a bridge between civilizations, was the path through which the pomegranate reached Sicilian shores. Born five thousand years ago in Persia, it arrived in Sicily thanks to the Phoenicians, from the coasts of Syria.

This infinite blue line connecting two lands gives life, in my imagination, to the Blue Pomegranate: a fruit that, as it opens, takes on the color of the sea. Its arils, long a symbol of prosperity, fertility, and abundance, are in the artwork represented by the ancient corals of Sciacca.
